The Way of a Pilgrim

Above: A Wanderer from the Resplendent City, 1933 by Nicholas Roerich.

It is a common problem that catechism and counsel for Christian disciples teds to emphasize information – doctrine, scripture, how to pray and worship – rather than action, for what we do changes who we are.

The Way of a Pilgrim is the account of an Orthodox Christian pilgrim who travels 19th-century Russia with the thirst to put into action the saying of the Apostle Paul. “Pray without ceasing.” He recounts how the Prayer of Jesus, “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me,” became active in him so that he began to experience the prayer of the heart.

The book is immensely profitable to those who read it and do as the pilgrim describes. Here it is offered as an audio book, which can be used while driving or working to immerse oneself in this way of thinking, and begin to take up the Jesus Prayer in our own lives.

Optionally, download the MP3, or you can purchase the book in print.

If you are not a pilgrim, walking alone through the land of Russia, then some of the writer’s experience may not be practical for you. Bring your thoughts to your spiritual father so you can put the Prayer into practice in a way that’s appropriate to your life.
